Welcome to Splitji("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and providing a transparent, frictionless bill-splitting experience. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application and web services ("Splitji") collect, use, and handle information when you create, split, or settle bills.
2. Information We Process
A. Bill Creator / Host Information
When a host sets up the mobile app, they may provide a display name, phone number, and a UPI Virtual Payment Address (VPA, e.g. username@okhdfcbank). This UPI address is strictly used to construct deep-links so your friends can send you payments directly.
B. Receipt Photos & OCR Data
When a user scans a physical restaurant bill, the image is transmitted to our secure Vision AI pipeline to parse line items, prices, and tax breakdown. Receipt images are used solely to extract bill line items for your active session and are never sold, rented, or used for behavioral advertising.
C. Guest / Friend Information
Guests accessing a shared bill link (splitji.com/b/[shareCode]) do not create accounts or passwords. Guests enter a transient display name and select the dishes they consumed.
3. Payments and Financial Data Disclaimer
Splitji does not process credit cards, collect debit card PINs, or store net-banking credentials. Payments are executed directly peer-to-peer using standard UPI protocols (via Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, etc.). We never touch, escrow, or hold any user funds.
4. How We Use Information
- To calculate proportional tax, tip, and item splits accurately.
- To generate valid UPI payment URLs and dynamic QR codes.
- To display live settlement progress to the bill host.
- To maintain service reliability and diagnose system errors.
5. Data Retention & Security
Bill session records are stored in our secure database to allow hosts and guests to view past splits. Hosts may remove bills from their dashboard at any time. We apply industry-standard TLS encryption for all data in transit.
